Azores regional government suspends privatisations

The regional government of the Azores has suspended the privatisation processes of  Azores Airlines and hotels on the islands of Flores and Graciosa due to the current political situation in the region. A note from the regional presidency explains: “The current political situation in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, with the regional budget blocked by  opposition parties, and the more than likely future dissolution of the regional parliament, with the calling of early regional legislative elections, imposes, in the democratic ethical understanding of the regional government of the Azores, the appropriate decision to suspend the sale tenders, for privatisation purposes, of part of the Regional Public Business Sector”. A Council of State called for next week (Tuesday) is expected to see a date for the Azores’ elections settled.
