Portugal’s Internal Security System (SSI) has decided this evening to raise the level of terrorist threat in the country from moderate to significant – considering that, in the context of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, “there are conditions that justify” this change”.
A statement released early this evening said: “The Security Intelligence Service (SIS), as the entity responsible for threat assessment, has sought throughout these days, in close and permanent cooperation with its international and national partners in the context of the Internal Security System, to systematically collect evidence that allows, in the context of potential threat agents, to identify and characterise intentions and capabilities. In this way, SIS considered that the conditions exist that justify changing the degree of terrorist threat in Portugal from Moderate to Significant.”
Updates/ reactions to come over weekend.
