European leaders gather in Porto

Fourteen European heads of State are in Porto today for the start of the 18th informal meeting of the Arraiolos Group, which annually brings together non-executive presidents of European Union member states. The meeting, continuing into Friday, and hosted by President Marcelo, is due to discuss topics “such as the war in Ukraine, climate change and migration. It is going ahead under intense security – even the airspace over venues is closed, reports Lusa. Hundreds of police agents are involved, including operational platoons and rapid intervention, prevention and immediate reaction teams, the traffic division, criminal investigation and the airport security division, Assistant Superintendent José Ferreira told the State news agency.
