The Portuguese government will present the final version of its controversial ‘Mais Habitação’ (More Housing) programme this afternoon.

Reports SIC, the presentation will happen at around 4.30pm in Setúbal after the Council of Ministers meeting.

None of the measures initially presented are expected to be eliminated, although SIC says that changes are expected to some, such as the so-called ‘coercive rental’ and the new Alojamento Local rules.

The programme was up for public consultation between February 20 and March 24 and received “over 2,700 contributions from associations, public entities, local councils and citizens, according to a Housing Ministry statement.

Some of the proposals which received the most feedback were the incentives for the conversion of AL properties into housing (29%), the mandatory rental of rundown houses (12%), the guarantees of fair rents in new contracts (8%), the end of the golden visas (6%), the licensing with terms of responsibility of designers (6%), the availability of State properties in the Housing Development Contracts regime (6%) and the protection of tenants with longer rental contracts (5%).
