On the day the government is once more round the table in a bid to break deadlock with the nation’s doctors syndicates, nursing counterpart SEP has announced it too will be calling strike action in November. With FNAM, the federation of doctors, already scheduling a strike over November 14 – 15, SEP’s date of November 10 presents a new level of stress for the country’s beleaguered health service. Says SEP, their action is against “existing problems in the SNS health service”. The union is “demanding solutions from the Ministry of Health”, stressing that nurses last went on strike in June, yet the government has failed to move on any of the issues highlighted at the time – mainly salary levels and working conditions.
