When something good happens, it can mean a lot. To eight-year-old ‘Nola’, an ex-Romanian foundling, her home to Portugal via Belgium, it means a lot when her young busy owner decided ‘Nola’ needed a break.
Her non-existent lifestyle, due to owner’s busy work agenda, meant residency with Gary and Wendy at Pet Park (Mexilhoeira Grande) almost permanent. They and APAA needed to find her a home. Godmothers exist and fairy tales do come true.
“It is like she has always been here,” Nola’s new mum beamed. “She’s a brilliant guard-dog and companion. Everything in one big hairy tail wagging canine friend.”
Jenny Clarke, president of the Association for Protection of Animals Algarve (APAA), has been busy with her agenda, between delivering goodies to their charity shops at Alvor and Silves and cat food to Zélia for her countless cat colonies.
APAA’s appearance at Convento’bio in Lagoa was an enormous success. It was a beautiful, crisp but sunny, autumn morning. “We were kept busy, that is for sure!” said Jenny and main ‘Pop-Up’ girl Anita who have already signed up for their pre-Christmas stall event. Watch out!
Whilst manoeuvring around with her white van, Jenny managed to pop into Nada’s ‘Portimão Soup Kitchen’ jazz event, re-donating APAA’s share of the ‘takings’ back to hard-working Nada and her charity. “Here to Help is, after all, our motto!” Jenny’s job is keeping the cash flow for everyone in need.
APAA’s Diary – Next Up!
Friday, October 6, 12pm-3pm: O Tasco/APAA ‘Pop-Up Special’. Goodies for house and garden, and pets. Jams, chutneys and cookies.
Saturday and Sunday, October 14 and 15: APAA will be at AFPOP’s BLiP event at Portimão Arena.
Friday, October 27, 11am-2pm: The Jolly Bar at Alvor. Visit Fiona’s Fi-Line Fashion and hand-made jewellery, and Gill Goodes’ prints, cards and artwork. APAA’s ‘Pop-Ups’ always have a pet corner. Books, electric gadgets, you name it, we’ve got it.
Friday, November 10: Convento’bio Lagoa pre-Christmas special for arts, crafts and small businesses. APAA stall with usual goodies.
Sundays (October 8, November 12 and December 10): Ferragudo Car Boot Sales, Fair and Street Market. Main one-way street. There’ll be collectable silver plate, bottles, books and stuff!
Don’t forget that special season – a time for giving – will be upon us soon. APAA’s main concern for the Algarve is the Spaying & Neutering Programme (SNiP) – raising money to keep furry, feral, feline populations down, helping with abandoned dogs and shelters and charities in need. Remember every little helps.
By the way, two terrier canine sisters stranded in Silves due to owner being whisked off to care home have now been re-homed.
