PJ police (southern division) have opened an investigation into claims that a support teacher at Aljezur’s ‘Escola Básica’ has sexually abused a 10-year-old pupil. The claims have been formalised by people connected to the school (namely parents), say reports. The teacher meantime remains working at the school, and is ‘supervised’ by non-teaching staff when giving tuition to other pupils. The teacher is understood to no longer be tutoring the child whose claims are being investigated. Local reports stress “it is now up to a pre-trial judge to see if the process should advance to an accusation against the teacher, or whether it is archived due to lack of evidence”.
