Rolling Loud, “the world’s biggest hip-hop festival”, returns to Portimão

Thousands once again expected at Praia da Rocha this week

The party mood in Portimão is set to continue with the town hosting Rolling Loud Portugal, described by organisers as “the biggest hip-hop festival in the world”, from July 5 to 7.

The music event has been held since 2015 in Asia, America and Australia, and came to Europe for the first-time in July last year.

With both Afro Nation and Rolling Loud sharing the same organisers, it “made sense”, logistically, to choose Praia da Rocha for the three-day festival, which promises “great music” from the over 60 artists and headliners Travis Scott, Playboi Carti and Meek Mill.

The first edition of the North American festival in Portugal was due in 2020 but had to be rescheduled because of Covid-19. After two years, the long-awaited event finally took place, with artists on stage including popular rappers such as Tay Money and Xavier Wulf.

Portuguese bands such as the Wet Bed Gang and rapper and hip-hop artist ProfJam will also be performing at this year’s Rolling Loud, an event that offers much more than “loud” music; partygoers will no doubt be making the most of the warm evenings, with the ocean, just a few steps away, as the perfect backdrop.

“Led by its founders Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif, Rolling Loud is the most powerful rap festival in history and its mission to bring the best to fans across the globe grows more ambitious by the day,” stated the organisation pointing out that the 2023 edition “is a major pillar in the festival’s massive international expansion”.

The first day will feature the highly anticipated performances of Travis Scott, Central Cee, Latto, Lil Uzi Vert, T-Rex and many others warming up the two stages for what’s to follow.

On the Thursday (July 6), it will be the turn of Playboi Carti, Kodak Black, Glorilla, Gucci Mane and Nines, among many other artists.

Closing the three days of great music and excitement for lovers of rap and hip-hop will be Meek Mill, D-Block Europe, Russ Millions, Lil Durk and many others.

In 2022, the event attracted around 35,000 hip-hop fans, with the line-up including names such as rapper and producer J. Cole, A$AP Rocky and Future. “It was incredible. I had the opportunity to see artists that I never thought would perform in my city,” a local festivalgoer who attended last year told Portugal Resident.

It is still possible to purchase the fourth release of VIP tickets as well as General Admission tickets on the official website. Rolling Loud Portugal is an 18+ only event.
