Rota do Petisco seeks “five-star tapas” for 2023 edition

Organisers to focus on quality of tapas served over quantity, with more chefs due to participate

Algarve gastronomic event Rota do Petisco is already accepting registrations for this year’s edition with a stronger focus than ever on the quality of tapas served.

Registrations are open until June 15 to restaurants and eateries in the following boroughs: Aljezur, Vila do Bispo, Lagos, Portimão, Monchique, Lagoa, Silves, Albufeira, Loulé and Tavira.

Rota to Petisco, which will be held from September 15 to October 15, has a simple concept based around what locals call “petiscar”: enjoying smaller, tapas-sized portions of several dishes instead of just eating one larger meal. This encourages clients to visit many restaurants and eateries in search of the best ‘petiscos’ they can find.

There is the normal ‘Rota’, which includes restaurants and eateries that serve more traditional national and regional tapas, which can be sweet or savoury.

There is also ‘Rota do Mundo’, which encourages foreign cuisine restaurants to join the ‘gastronomic route’, and ‘Rota dos Chefs’ which shines the spotlight on the talent of local chefs.

“More than having a high number of establishments taking part, we want to ensure the quality of the tapas served, whilst also promoting renowned chefs who recreate Algarvian flavours like no one else,” organisers say, adding that the goal is to at least double the number of chefs taking part.

Establishments can sign up online or contact +351 910 174 814 or [email protected] for more information.
