Portugal is responsible for €170 million of the total of €12 billion that the European Union (EU) could provide to Ukraine by 2027 for its defence, defence minister João Gomes Cravinho has announced today. Speaking in Luxembourg, he said “Portugal is responsible for 1.5% of the total. The increase of 3.5 billion (…) means for Portugal something like €170 million until 2027, if the entire amount is spent”. He added: “There is no finance minister of the 27 who is happy with the need to invest so much money (…) but I believe that all finance ministers and all prime ministers and presidents within the EU understand that it is necessary to make this effort, given the exceptional circumstances we are experiencing”.
