Shopping in Algarve
Shopping can be the best way of exploring a region and of getting to know about daily life, the people and their traditions. The goods on sale themselves and their setting all make up vital elements giving visitors a reliable way of getting to know and discover the area.
It's hard to beat a good wander around the shops. The Algarve has a great range of stores, from global brands and large shopping malls to small local stores packed with hand-made items, from gypsy markets to designer outlets.
Traditionally linens, pottery and leather items were the best bargains. That's still true today, but keep an eye out for handmade jewellery, furniture (it can be shipped!), perfumes and gadgets.
The Algarve has everything to offer, from the most highly regarded brands to craft products, Moroccan leather, accessories, wines and other edibles. Places vary from the traditional and renovated city centres and town markets, to traditional open air markets and modern shopping centres like Forum Algarve in Faro, Algarve Shopping in Guia or Aqua Portimão. A whole world to discover, explore and take back home!
The forum is the second largest shopping centre in the Algarve taking up over 45,000 square metres. There are over 200 shops for you to explore with plenty of cafes and restaurants and international shops. What makes this shopping experience more unique is that it’s half under cover and half out in the open with the indoor section split over 2 levels. Shopping in Faro is easy from Rocha Brava, a stunning coastal drive around 45 mins East plus there are public transport links available too.
With underground parking and covering more than 47,000 square metres Aqua in Portimao is another excellent place to explore some shops. You’ll find a great selection available with 21 restaurants and 117 different shops. Being the biggest shopping centre in the Algarve this centre also comes with all the modern amenities you would expect including baby facilities, post office and cash points. An excellent retail centre orientated around an open air central point with a beautiful fountain at its middle.
